Republicans Celebrate House Majority Victory
ST. PAUL, MN – House Republican Leader Kurt Daudt (Crown) joined several Representatives-elect at a press conference Wednesday to celebrate earning a 72-62 majority in the Minnesota House of Representatives. House Republicans were boosted by strong performances—including some surprising upsets—in Greater Minnesota, where House Republican candidates consistently outperformed top-of-the-ticket margins in 2012 and this year in 2014. Alongside 11 pickups, Republicans held every current incumbent seat.
“I’m proud to say that Democrats’ total-control of state government in Minnesota has come to an end,” said House Republican Leader Kurt Daudt. “Last night, Minnesota elected an exceptional group of dedicated leaders—teachers, small business owners, farmers, veterans—Minnesotans from all walks of life who are ready to work hard on behalf of Minnesota families.”
Daudt was joined by more than a dozen newly-elected Republican members, including Representative-elect Roz Peterson (Lakeville), a businesswoman and chair of the ISD194 school board, Representative-elect Peggy Bennett (Albert Lea), an elementary school teacher, and businessman Dave Baker (Willmar).
“Minnesotan families want a state government that values, not wastes their tax dollars. That’s a message I heard over and over again on the campaign trail, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring that message to the Capitol,” Peterson said.
“I’m humbled to have the opportunity to bring my 30 years of public-school teaching experience to St. Paul and get to work on improving our Education system,” Bennett said.
“It’s such an honor to have earned the trust of my community, and I’m looking forward to applying my experience growing businesses and jobs to the legislature so we can continue to improve Minnesota’s job climate,” Baker said.
“I couldn’t be more proud to stand alongside these phenomenal newly-elected Representatives, and am excited for the work they will do for Minnesotans over the next two years,” Daudt concluded.
